The Constructivist Theory of Truth

12 May, 2008

A theory stating that truth is constructed by social processes. It is historically and culturally specific, and it is in part shaped through the power struggles within a community.

Social Constructivism views all knowledge as constructed, because it doesn’t reflect any external realities. Instead, the perceptions of truth are viewed as contingent on convention, human perception, and social experience.

Constructivists believe that truths about physical and biological reality, including race, sexuality and gender are socially constructed.
