Underground Suicides

I know that they are in a world of hurt, I know that there are apparently no other options or ways out of their morbid black hole but, seriously, do you have to jump in front of a train? What about the driver of the train? Do you think he appreciates smashing into you at 50mph and seeing you splat everywhere? Do you think he’ll sleep easy that night knowing what happened? Or what about the millions of commuters and tourists who’s journeys you mess up because of your selfish act? Suicide isn’t painless, it’s a fucking pain in the arse. Get some balls and do it where and when it doesn’t affect anybody else apart from yourself.

A Medical Dilemma

We are posting this on behalf of one of our readers, a psychology student, who needs respondents for a research project. He is looking for the truth – what would you do? There is no right or wrong answer, he is only interested in what your answer would be and why.

Case:

You have one heart and one liver. You have four patients; all of which needs both organs to survive. In short you can only save one of the four lives. Who would you give the organs to?

Scenario:

Patient 1: A doctor, and a colleague of yours, who is both successful at his job and contributes to his work place. You have known each other for years. But; he has a history of domestic violence towards his wife and children and has at one occasion, supposedly, sexually assaulted his partner.

Patient 2: A heavy smoker and drinker who needs the transplant because his habits destroyed his first set of organs. He has a clear criminal record and has no history of unemployment. His job involves working with children and teenagers in the community to help them with whatever their problems might be and he is highly regarded by these children, some of whom have come to see him as a parent.

Patient 3: A reformed criminal convicted of murder that is just about to complete his prison sentence. In his defence the murder was ‘justified’, no other details are available. He plans to get into social work to help reform other criminals upon release.

Patient 4: A lower-class cleaner with a record of going in and out of employment. He doesn’t pay tax as he claims that he doesn’t believe his hard-earned money goes to support what he feels is important for society. He has no records of criminal activity and generally behaves in an orderly fashion.

Additional Information:

All the patients are in the same age range.

None of the patients display any sign of anti-social behaviour. Generally they are pleasant people.

Medically speaking all four patients has the same survival rate with the new organs – provided that they stick to a regime administered by the hospital.

Without the transplant surgery none of the patients will survive long enough for more organs to be found.

So:

Who would you give the organs to?

Why did this patient deserve the organs the most?

Why didn’t the other 3 patients deserve it as much?

Please, could you also let me know if you are male or female and your age?

  • I’m not yelling! = Yes I am yelling because I think this is important.
  • All we’re going to buy is a soap dish = It goes without saying that we’re stopping at the cosmetics department, the shoe department, I need to look at a few new pocket books, and OMYGOD those pink sheets would look great in the bedroom and did you bring your checkbook?

Cocaine Use Not A Victimless Crime

British cocaine users are helping to destroy rainforests and fund terror groups, says Colombia’s vice president  Francisco Santos Calderon. Every gram of cocaine snorted by a drug user causes the destruction of four square metres of rainforest.

Mr Santos is due to address a drugs conference being held by the Association of Chief Police Officers in Belfast about the damage that cocaine use in Europe and the US inflicts on his country. 300,000 hectares of rainforest are destroyed each year in Colombia to clear land for coca plant cultivation, which is largely controlled by illegal groups such as the left-wing guerilla organisation Farc. Landmines used to protect cocaine crops and processing labs are responsible for almost 900 civilian deaths each year.

Farc and other narco-terror groups are also involved in the kidnapping of people like French politician Ingrid Betancourt, who was held for more than six years before her release earlier this year. Mr Santos himself was kidnapped and held by a cocaine gang for 18 months in the 1990s.

He said: “If you snort a gramme of cocaine, you are destroying four square metres of rainforest and that rainforest is not just Colombian – it belongs to all of us who live on this planet, so we should all be worried about it. Not only that, the money that you use to buy the cocaine goes into the hands of Farc, of illegal groups that plant mines, that kidnap, that kill, that use terrorism to protect their business. Right now, Colombia is the number one country for landmine victims in the world. This year we are approaching 900 victims of landmines, most of them planted around labs and areas where coca is being cultivated.”

Mr Santos accepts that drug addicts are unlikely to be persuaded to give up cocaine by concern about the environment or terrorism. But he believes that middle-class Britons, who pride themselves on their green credentials, appear to believe that their cocaine use is a “victimless crime” and are unaware of its impact on the environment.
